Benchmark is a workout app tailored to CrossFit enthusiasts that links “box” gyms with their clients, provides “workouts of the day,” tracks and visualizes progress for both user and trainer, and motivates users via social incentivizing and reminders.
The client came to me with a thorough feature set and a series of rough UI sketches…
These were an invaluable tool to get us on the same page. But they needed to be adapted and redesigned to be a bit more touch-friendly and tailored to the user interface conventions common to mobile devices.
Concurrently, I designed three visual design options.
A final visual approach was refined and various states were updated based on select user testing feedback.
Beyond the user interface, I tapped into the multicolor level concept as the key iconic element for the logo. The levels element was also a natural choice for the app icon.
